40+ Years of Restorative Sleep

Weids Living and Sleeping is a family business with over 40 years of experience in the bedding industry. Located in the north of the Netherlands, in the beautiful region of Fryslân, we value building good relationships more than making a quick sale. Providing sound, reliable advice tailored to your personal needs is what we stand for.

We believe that a good night’s sleep is essential for a healthy, happy life! With this conviction, Weids Living and Sleeping sells only high-quality products. Materials are carefully selected based on the best quality at a fair price.

Through our website and webshop, you can easily gather information and receive online assistance to make the right choice. You can filter our range via the menu based on your preferences. If you know exactly which product you are looking for, you can enter it as a search term in the search bar at the top right of the screen.

If you cannot find the product you’re looking for or would like personal advice, call us, send an email, or start a live chat via the button at the bottom right of the screen (available during office hours). You can also fill in the contact form, and we will get in touch with you.

Need Personal Advice?

Choosing the right mattress, duvet, or pillow takes time and attention. To provide you with focused, personalised advice in a calm environment, our showroom is open by appointment.

As we operate both an online store and a physical shop, there may be times when we are less reachable by phone. We appreciate your understanding.

Sustainable Business Practices

Sustainable Business

Weids Living and Sleeping is highly conscious of its environmental footprint. In addition to using six large heat pumps to meet the heating needs of our company halls (a total of 10,000 m²) and offices, we have over 200 solar panels and multiple solar water heaters on our roofs that cover our total energy requirements. This allows us to operate energy-neutral and self-sufficiently. We have also installed two charging stations in our parking areas to encourage electric driving.

Reusing Packaging Materials

Almost all boxes in which we receive our deliveries are reused for shipping products to our customers. We sell nearly everything from our own stock, allowing us to ship orders as much as possible from a single location. We never ship empty space; all items are carefully packed and compressed if necessary to minimize transport impact.

Reusing Filling Materials

Weids Living and Sleeping takes the lead and is the first company in the bedding industry to circularly reuse sheep’s wool! When purchasing a wool duvet, you can request a free return sticker, allowing you to send your old wool duvet back to us at no cost in the empty box. In our own recycling department, your old wool duvet is fully recycled.

The wool is thoroughly washed and, after a strict quality check, reused for other products, including beanbags for humans and animals. The duvet covers are processed into materials such as insulation, cleaning cloths, and construction materials.

Feathers are now also recycled. These duvets are returned to us and handed over to our supplier Ducky Dons for sustainable reuse of the raw materials. Read more here.

The Pillow Factory Production

The Pillow Factory

We are particularly proud that around 90% of the pillows we sell are made right here in Bitgum in our own pillow factory. This factory is primarily run by people who face barriers to the labour market, fantastic individuals who just need a little more time, support, and guidance.

Of course, our pillow factory uses only sustainable raw materials. Even the pillow bags are made from 100% recycled plastic. Soon, we will also ship our pillows rolled up, reducing the amount of air shipped. Rolling the pillow has no impact on its quality; it’s simply a clever innovation.

Sustainable Raw Materials

For the filling of our pillows, we use sustainable sheep’s wool and synthetic filling fibres, Aerelle® Blue. These synthetic fibres are special because they are made from ethically recovered ocean plastics and plastic bottles. These are collected by the Plastic Bank – Social Plastic – and recycled into resilient fibre balls, creating an environmentally friendly filling material that is also incredibly soft, ensuring a comfortable and worry-free sleep.

Aerelle® Blue is certified with the EU Ecolabel and GRS and checked for traceability. These feel-good fibres, which have environmental benefits, are exceptionally comfortable and ensure a balanced microclimate. They are globally recognized as one of the key solutions to stop ocean plastic pollution.

Stewardship and Sleep Comfort

Stewardship

Stewardship, for us, is about awareness in everything we do. With the belief that good sleep contributes to a better world, our mission is to convince everyone of the importance of good sleep. Sleep is a basic necessity. Just like food and drink, we need sleep. People feel happier and are proven to be healthier when they sleep well. One of the most important functions of sleep is the restoration of body and mind.

Good sleep is strongly influenced by the comfort of the materials you lie on or under. We can easily provide that for you. However, factors beyond our control include your lifestyle, eating habits, and mental state, the thoughts running through your mind and heart, where your awareness is engaged.

Stewardship is at the core of our existence. For us, selling sleep-promoting bedding is our way of contributing to a healthier society. We pay close attention to the impact of our business operations on the three pillars: people, animals, and the environment. From sourcing raw materials and the production process to the sale and shipment of our products, we are fully involved. We are even actively engaged in recycling.

Social Impact is Our Goal!

Weids Living and Sleeping is not focused on profit maximization by definition. We see the economic growth of our company as the perfect opportunity to continuously invest in what truly matters. We provide space and time for personal growth and give full attention to development opportunities. We do this with everyone who works with or for us, but also by financially supporting worthwhile initiatives from others.

Our Inclusive Workplace Philosophy

As mentioned, within our company we like to provide opportunities for people with a distance from the labor market. We also see it as a challenge to give young people in general, and especially young people with intellectual disabilities, the chance to develop themselves further, not only as professionals but also as individuals.

So, it may happen that when you call us, you speak with an intern or someone with an intellectual disability. Of course, we take the person’s abilities into account, but it is possible that their response may not always have the professional approach you might have expected. We ask for your understanding in this choice and hope you can treat our colleagues with the same consideration.

Weids Living and Sleeping is also recognized by SBB as a training company. This means we meet all requirements to provide MBO students with a full-fledged learning and work placement. Within our organization, students can achieve the learning objectives set by their program. To support them, we provide adequate guidance within our company. Additionally, Weids Living and Sleeping offers learning and work opportunities for Wajong recipients, young people in their twenties who have been out of school for some time but, due to their intellectual disabilities, have difficulty finding a suitable workplace.
